K-Tel Memorabilia and Stories for:
As Seen on TV: The K-Tel Story
From MidCanada Entertainment and CTV
Production crews are scouring North America and beyond to capture the incredible story of K-Tel International: the music and gadget company that literally changed the face of TV advertising in the early 70's. Surely you must have been living in a cave if you didn't experience the carpet-bombing of high-powered, in-your-face commercials that became the 'often imitated, but never duplicated' K-Tel style. "How many times has THIS happened to you?", the commercials would blare, generating millions of dollars in sales for items like the Miracle Brush or Feather Touch Knife. And then there was the music: "All the greatest hits! All the greatest stars!" -- as the company became the first label to offer multiple chart-topping tracks on a single album- for the low price of $3.49! A move that would sell over 50 million albums worldwide.
SCTV alumnist and Hollywood actor Dave Thomas (aka Harvey K-Tel) will follow the K-Tel Story from it's humble beginnings in Winnipeg to international icon status-one that remains to today. Directed by Cam Bennett and produced by Kevin Dunn of MidCanada Entertainment, the doc will feature interviews with the brains behind the K-Tel machine, a look back at the stars that appeared on the albums and of course those mind-bending ads that attacked us during our favourite television programs.
But wait! There's more! Producers want to hear from K-Tel consumers and past employees-stories, memorabilia, collections-or connections to K-Tel. Just click here and e-mail your stories to the show. No calls, please. Selected participants may be interviewed and appear on the documentary, slated to air on CTV and distributed worldwide in the '05-'06 television season.
