The Running Back Thru Canada reunion tour in 2000 provided the footage for BMG Records to release this gem. Produced originally for a CBC-TV special, the 5.1 surround sound video dwelt on the tour's historic and emotional stop in Winnipeg - a July night that almost ended in disaster during the start of the song New Mother Nature. A summer cloudburst descended on the outdoor venue, slamming the performance with wind, rain and lightning that lit the prairie sky around the concert bowl, the show was halted "We thought that the storm had ruined everything, we thought we were going to lose the whole evening," recalls Cummings about what was to be a triumphant return to their hometown. It didn't.
It's fabulous drama that really wouldn't have been there without the storm," says Cummings. "Thank God no one got hurt."
Bachman says "It proved to be perfect after all, and it's all captured on the DVD."
"It was, like, lighting by God. It really made the last couple of numbers on that. It was pretty incredible. We couldn't have planned it better."
The television version was edited here by producers Linda Nelson and Norm Lussier of YaYo Productions. The DVD was mastered and mixed in the MIDCAN labs. New edits and mixed in 5.1 the sound is better than ever and the DVD will certainly impress with the overall production. "It was a big, expensive shoot, 15 or 16 cameras, I think, and even one from a helicopter." Cummings said. The DVD contains never before seen footage and bonus songs not seen on the CBC version of the show.
